Bella Greets the Girls

Holly Water-Taxiing
A big woof, woof, to Holly, Honey, Taylor, and Katelyn, our first stay-with-us guests. I was so excited to see them, I almost wagged out. They had nothing but raves for Andre at "The Lunch Box" in Belize City (telephone 501-203-7444) for tons of helpful information including where to catch the water taxi.

On the trip to Ambergris Caye, the sun was setting just as the full moon was rising. Holly, prone to seasickness, said the water taxi was smooth sailing all the way--almost. Honey lost her hat when it blew overboard, and Taylor's gorgeous blonde hair got matted in the sea breeze! Aww.

Pablo, Katelyn, Taylor, and Ramon
When everyone had arrived and the luggage was inside and the ooh's and ahh's were almost over, you'd think the perfect island memory had been made. But that's when the mariachi band Shelley hired showed up! Everyone should be welcomed to an island paradise by a mariachi band, right? RIGHT!

For those who want to actually learn something today about San Pedro, let's talk about fishing licenses. You've gotta have them! Period. End of story. The good news is, they're easy to get, either at local stores or online.

Income from tourism is a big deal around here, and a lot of folks come here just for the fishing. If you are fishing for anything in Belize salt waters, you need a license. If you catch a tarpon or a bonefish , you HAVE to release it. If you catch a jack or a snook or a grouper, you can kill and eat it. But if you are in the act of fishing for anything and they find you without a license, you will be fined. Why are bonefish protected. Because some economist figured out that bonefishing puts $10,000 USD in the local economy for every bonefish caught (and released)! Besides, there's a reason they're called bonefish. You don't want to eat them anyway!

Mayor Danny G.
KILO! KILO!
Congratulations to Danny Guerrero, the brand-new mayor of San Pedro. The United Democrats (the red shirts) held on for another term. I must confess, I was favoring Kilo of the Pink Party. But I'm sure Danny will do a great job. I mean, he promised he would.

Plans for today include snorkeling. Then, later, it's off to the Full Moon Carnival Party at Kama Lounge and Bistro located just over the bridge and across from Reef Village Resort. The girls brought me a wonderful new camera, so future blog pictures should be spectacular. YAY! And THANK YOU! The battery is still charging, but soon I shall be practicing. I'm a little concerned that the zoom feature may be a little tricky--not exactly paw friendly--but we'll see.

Y'all come visit. We'll do some snorkeling or bonefishing, go to parties, and take lots of pictures. You're gonna love Belize!

  1. A few questions
It is sleeting here in Tulsa today. How is the weather in Belize?
    What is holy water taxiing?
Tell your guests not to yell "kilo, kilo" as they go thru customs.
One of your house guests left me a check. Can I cash it?
I wouldn't take Honey to the Full Moon Party. I've seen that movie before and believe me, it isn't pretty.
