Bella Does a Rally

Here's a big shout out to all my readers. Yesterday we reached 2,000 page views! Oh, yeah! We're on the way, baby.

Well, Royal Fever continues. This just in from "The Times of India" of all places:

Prince Harry in Belmopan
Prince Harry, who was hoping to shed his playboy prince image on his first solo royal tour to the Caribbean, drank cocktails and danced with local lovelies as he attended a street party in Belmopan, the capital of Belize. The city's mayor insisted the Prince try every local brew from rum to lager and quite a few other things in between, on a royal walkabout with a difference. The 27-year-old Prince willingly obliged before accepting an invitation from a Creole dancer to show off the dancing skills he has honed in London's nightspots.

Oh, Harry, we can't send you anywhere without your getting in trouble!

In the meantime, more news from the home front. Tom got another cheap, but good, haircut by "The Turk" aka Mestifa aka Stephen in preparation for Wednesday's visit by daughters Holly and Honey, granddaughter Taylor, and Taylor's friend Katelyn. And, just as exciting as a haircut, Tom and I finally found the clothing store on Back Street that sells non-tourist clothes. The big find of the day was a never-worn-before Super Bowl XXXVI New Orleans ball cap for $3.00 USD. Next, we were off to Lino's Meat Market to pick up a few things. Here's a picture of their sign out front complete with catchy marketing slogans. Gotta love it!

Last night we walked to the park (or town square) to the UDP (United Democratic Party) rally. Once again we got our colors confused, and Shelley was worried that she was wearing a red shirt to the blue party rally. Fortunately, when we got there everybody was wearing a red shirt.

That's Shelley wearing the red shirt.
The UDP has recently angered some locals, first, by erecting a huge "town clock" in the middle of the main drag and, second, by spending much-needed money putting up expensive tombstone-like cement markers touting the achievements of the administration. Regardless, there were lots of people at the rally due in part to the dollar beers, free cokes, and wonderful, wonderful food. We chose the pork chop sandwich and chicken sandwich for $3.00 USD each. Do you remember the picture I showed you in an earlier blog of the cart with the sign "Best Local Food"? Well, there it was right in the thick of things selling--you guessed it--the best local food. The Prime Minister, Dean Barrow, was in attendance fresh from his meeting at the airport with Prince Harry.
Wearing the UDP colors

Well, gringos and locals are always patting me on the head and sticking their hands in my face, especially in a big crowd. And the whole time I'm thinking, For crying out loud, people, don't make me bite you! I had to chase off one big dog who thought he could get a bite of the pork chop sandwich. Showed him.
Windy day yesterday.

Y'all come visit. We'll hit the park, eat street food, and walk around reading the tombstones. You're gonna love Belize.
