Bella Goes to Lola's

You guessed it, boys and girls. It's March 1st, it's Thursday, and, once again, it's time for "Chicken Drop," a favorite amongst locals and tourists alike!

I was relieved to learn that it's not the chicken being dropped, it's the chicken doing the dropping. The good folks at the Spindrift Hotel feed some lucky chickens way more sweet corn than they need, then one of them is placed in a ring on the beach with numbers written on the floor of the ring. You bet on a number from 1-100 where the chicken, uh, you-know-what. It's sort of like Bingo without the Golden Agers and with a lot more booze. By the way, there are some serious prizes for the winners. So now when you hear, "Chicken Security, bring me my chicken!" you'll know what's going on.

Completely Random Boat Picture
First, an update on Tom's fishing trip on a real boat. The call came in at 1:45 pm from Obby. "Hurry, mon. Stephen's bringing the boat over NOW."  So Tom and I grab the cooler and a taxi and head to Obby's house. Except Stephen isn't there. So we wait for Stephen, then we text Stephen, then we call Stephen. "Be right there, mon. Be right there." That went on for FOUR HOURS! Even Obby, the most laid-back man on the Island, was exasperated. Stephen never did show up! So we walked over to Captain Iguana's Sports Bar where Tom took a picture of a real boat with the intention of making up a fishing story.... I wouldn't let him. Here's the boat picture, anyway.

Prices in Belizean Dollars
A quick taxi ride home to change clothes, then it was off to Lola's Pub on Barrier Reef Drive (aka Front Street) to hear Gino DeFalco perform. Lola's was just rated Number 6 out of 68 restaurants on Ambergris Caye, and we weren't disappointed with the rating. The blue cheese sliders and french fries were great, and so was Gino who performed  music non-stop for three hours. The kid never took a break, but at one point other Island musicians dropped in and joined in. Gino responded 8 years ago to a local classified ad for a guitar player and left southern Illinois and moved to San Pedro. What a trooper! When it was time to go home, we caught a ride on a friend's golf cart, but, sometimes, we just hitchhike!

Y'all come visit. We can go to Chicken Drop, hang out at Lola's, or even go pretend fishing. You're gonna love Belize!
