Bella Likes Deep-Fried Desserts

Dining out--again!
Wild Mango's
Big Deal Alert: Shelley, still recovering from a bad fall, was out of the house for over three hours today. Jane had gone swimming and was too tired to go out for lunch. So Tom, Shelley, and I walked down to Wild Mango's for another fabulous beach side lunch. We had the pineapple-glazed tuna with spicy relish served with chili onion rings. Chef Amy Knox is the best!

It was unfortunate that Shelley said to Tom during the meal, (a little too loudly, I thought), "I'm so tired of being on this cocaine!" (She meant to say codeine, her prescription pain medication.) We had a few strange looks from some of the other diners, and we'll probably wait a little while before we go back to Wild Mango's.

Here's a shout out to faithful reader Mindy who leaves wonderful comments and makes her husband, Bart, read my blog. Thanks, Mindy! We miss you guys at Estel's for breakfast.

You get the idea.

In the afternoon we chatted with Sue and Randy who split their year between Michigan and Belize. Randy was carrying their dog in a doggy sling which is really cool, because when I sit down and refuse to walk any further, Tom has to carry me in his arms, and I get too hot. (Whine, whine.) So be on the alert, Jim and Kim (our friends who will be visiting in May). We may need you to bring a doggy sling with you. Alternatively, we have to ask the Guatemalan ladies on the beach to make me one, and Tom doesn't like the multi-colored, embroidered look.
This evening Jane, Tom, and I headed to Legends across the bridge for dinner, and were we ever in for a treat! Now let me say at the onset, I know a lot of people don't come to a Caribbean island for hamburgers. But just in case you get a hankering for a real burger experience, this is the place to go. Jane had the "Jimmy Buffet," a traditional cheeseburger with french fries, hold the onions, while Tom and I shared the "Fat B*st*rd," a huge burger with bacon, onions, and deep-fried cheese. Oh, yeah. And if that wasn't enough to get the cholesterol rolling around, dessert was a deep-fried snickers bar with vanilla ice cream! That, we shared. Wow, bow, wow!

Now let's be clear here, it was a slow Monday night at Legends. You know it's slow when the musicians (that would be Keith Cameau and Jim Desermeau) are saying to each other, "I dunno. Whadda you wanna play?") The good news is, on a slow night you get a chance to talk to the band. So tonight we found out that Jim, the percussionist, is an archaeologist who has both cataloged and donated thousands of Mayan artifacts to  Marco Gonzalez Maya Site Ambergris Caye Ltd. (MGMSACL), the most important Maya dig on the Island. Just thought he was a drummer, huh? Well, you never know!

Y'all come visit. We'll eat deep-fried candy bars with ice cream and work those calories off swimming in the beautiful Caribbean. You're gonna love Belize.
