Bella Hangs with the Girls

Medical Update and Food Review: Shelley's doing better! Faithful followers will recall that she fell several weeks ago onto a tile floor dislocating her shoulder and fracturing bones in her shoulder and hand. Today she got up, got dressed, and actually left the house! Yay! Karen, Jane, and I took her to lunch today at Caroline's Cookin' located at Perla Escondida (Hidden Pearl) and Coconut Drives.

Caroline's Cookin' Crew
Caroline's Cookin', in a word, is fabulous!  Shelley had a "fish burger" which, frankly, doesn't sound that tasty. Well, how does a  freshly battered and fried-to-perfection fish sandwich with all the trimmings on homemade bread sound? Mmm good, that's how. Jane and Karen each had a bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich and raved about them. And someone else told us their shrimp curry was to die for!

The previous time I went to Caroline's was with Tom and Shelley for dinner. The food was also wonderful that evening, but the interesting thing was the party of 21 people who came in for a wedding rehearsal dinner. All of them ordered lobster. And Caroline Duncan, the owner/chef, pulled it off! She told us today the same people are coming back in a few months, but this time with a party of 31! Whew! Be sure to check out Caroline's Cookin' when you come to visit. You won't be sorry!

While we girls were eating and chatting, Tom and his buddy Augustine went to Amal Hardware, SP Hardware, SP Home Center, Harmouch's Center, Harmouch South, and Castillo's Hardware trying to find some 4" tiles to replace the ones torn out in the guest bathroom when the shower plumbing problem was being fixed. (Yes, those are all the hardware stores in San Pedro.)

Where the tiles are.

Two hours later they finally located a box of tile the correct color, if not the correct size, at Castillo's. They only needed three of the larger 8" tiles, but had to buy a box of 40. That doesn't mean the bathroom is actually repaired yet, but, hey, Grandma Jane still has a week left before she has to leave.

So what's the big deal, you may ask? Well, when was the last time you saw your grandpa going to six hardware stores on a bicycle? Huh? Amazingly, he is still able to walk. Sort of.

Huh?

Sign in downtown San Pedro that possibly needs further explanation:
     "Child Care and Party Supplies."
Headline from the San Pedro Sun that needs no further explanation:
     "Child Stimulation Month Ends."

Y'all come visit. We'll let you float in the dingy after you visit all the hardware stores in town. You're gonna love Belize!

  1. Hi Bella, Carolines sounds great. Bart and I will have to try it next time we are in San Pedro. Oh, and tell Tom the story about him taking a shortcut through the middle of a ball game is hilarious. I can't wait to share this story with Bart.

We are at the French Quarter Jazz Festival in New Orleans and head home tomorrow. The music and food are wonderful but not enough to keep me from being homesick for San Pedro.

Tell Shelley I will try to call her this week. Hopefully her arm is strong enough to hold the phone:O) Love you guys, give Tom and Shelley a little "pat" for me...
